My Dot Tour

My Dot Tour is a collaborative program that empowers youth and community through celebrating Fields Corner’s multicultural history. Based on a model made successful by mytown, inc. in the South End and Lower Roxbury, MyDotTour brings this innovative program to Dorchester—Boston's largest and oldest neighborhood, founded in 1630. MyDotTour youth tour leaders meet weekly to learn about their community, research its history, and create a walking tour of the Fields Corner area. These youth serve as tour guides, developing leadership and public speaking skills in the process. The 2011 free tours took place Saturdays, August 6th and 13th, at 11 a.m.; and Sundays, August 7th and 14th, at 4 p.m.

The My Dot Tour kick off event took place in 2010 during Dorchester Day Weekend. An attached press release profiles that initial event, and an additional release discusses the tour's current (2011) form. Relaunched in 2011, My Dot Tour continues to connect the community to its history and keep youth engaged where they live! With a significant, new multi-media component, expanded historical survey of Fields Corner and comprehensive program, My Dot Tour 2011 delves deep into past, present and future of the neighborhood.
