Neponset River Trail Meeting Nov. 17

The Department of Conservation and Recreation, Commonwealth of Massachusetts will host a public meeting on the Neponset River Trail on Thursday, November 17, 2011. The meeting will be from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Foley Senior Residences Dining Room, 249 River Street, Mattapan.

At the meeting, DCR will provide an update on the pathway project that will link the Lower Neponset River Trail to the Neponset Esplanade, including information on a U. S. Department of Transportation TIGER grant application submitted by DCR for federal funding for the project. DCR will also seek additional public input on potential design opportunities.

Neponset Watercolor Workshop, Jul. 25

WatercolorCathy Garnett, an experienced artist with watercolors from the MA Dept. of Conservation and Recreation, will instruct a group in basic watercolor technique on July 25. Using the environment, such as trees, buildings and water, Cathy will explain how to make beautiful art with watercolors. Supplies will be provided, folding chairs are recommended to bring. This event will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Baker Square River Trail (1243 Adams St, Dorchester) To join this event, registration is required at www.bostonnatural.org. Explore Pope John Paul II Park Event for Families, Jun. 18

Department of Conservation and RecreationHey families: Get Outdoors! Local residents and families are invited to explore Pope John Paul II Park on June 18 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The North Face, American Hiking Society, Leave No Trace and local partners are joining together with state parks to promote the importance of being active and getting outdoors with seven free events across the US. These events are meant to encourage the local community to get outdoors and truly explore the state parks close to home. There will be ranger led hikes and other activities, snacks, speakers, partner demos, as well as giveaways, including the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award (PALA) Challenge information, Explore Your Parks activity guides, and free state park passes. Meeting to Discuss Improvements to Dorchester Playground, Apr. 11

The state's Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) has scheduled a public meeting to discuss planned improvements at McMorrow Playground in Dorchester. Existing equipment at the playground on Victory Road is described as "out of date and in disrepair." DCR is completing plans for a new, improved playground at the site with new equipment and improved access. Meeting will take place Monday, April 11, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., at the Leahy-Holloran Community Center, 1 Worrell Street, Dorchester.

Meeting to Discuss Improvements to Mattapan Playground, Apr. 12

The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) has scheduled a public meeting on April 12, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., to discuss options for improving the wading pool at Ryan Playground in Mattapan. Each of the three options includes a wading pool and separate spray deck. The existing pool, which is outdated and needs to be improved, has spray features incorporated into the wading pool. Meeting will take place at the Foley Senior Residences "Great Room," 249 River Street, Mattapan.

Easter Egg Hunt and Photos, Apr. 16

Easter Eggs Phillips Candy House sponsors the annual 
Department of Conservation & Recreation’s Spring Easter Egg Hunt in Dorchester’s Pope John Paul II Park (Gallivan Blvd. entrance) this April 16, starting promptly at 11 a.m. Immediately following the hunt, the Phillips family invites kids and parents to join them at the Candy House, 818 Morrissey Blvd. for photos with the Easter bunny (until 2 p.m.) For more information, call 800-722-0905.
