Thanksgiving Farmers Market Nov. 22

On Tuesday, November 22, there will be a Farmers Market event taking place on Tuesday, November 22 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Dudley Green House, 11 Brook Ave, Roxbury, MA. The Food Project will be offering their last field veggies of the year - stock up on potatoes, leeks, winter squash, salad greens and many more favorites for your Thanksgiving dinner. The youth will be serving a delicious squash soup and have planned children's activities. Stop by to wish your neighbors a happy Thanksgiving!

Build-a-Garden, grow your own!

Grow your own vegetables at home! The Food Project’s Build-a-Garden program supports Boston residents and organizations to grow their own food in raised bed and container gardens. The program will provide you with: a raised bed garden or container garden kit, including soil and compost, seeds and transplants, a Growing Guide, workshops, and additional support by phone, email, blog, and newsletters.

The Food Project Seeks Community Greenhouse Proposals, Deadline Jul. 20

The Food ProjectThe Food Project (TFP), with support from the Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative (DSNI), is seeking partners to share community space in the recently opened Dudley Greenhouse. The Dudley Greenhouse is a 10,000-square-foot facility in the Dudley Neighborhood of Roxbury. Owned by DSNI and leased by The Food Project, the greenhouse operates year-round as a food production and educational space.

Space is open to groups serving the neighborhoods of Roxbury, Dorchester and Mattapan, with priority given to projects that directly serve the Dudley Neighborhood. The RFP can be found attached to this post, and on The Food Project website. Applications are due July 20th, 2011.

Interested groups and individuals are encouraged to visit the greenhouse and meet with the Greenhouse Manager Danielle Andrews in advance of submitting a proposal. The greenhouse is open to the public on Tuesdays from 3 to 6 p.m., Thursdays from 1 to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 to 12:30 p.m. Appointments can also be made by contacting Danielle via email or phone (617-442-1322 x13). Come take a tour of The Food Project's Greenhouse and Urban Farm with DEHC! The Dorchester Environmental Health Coalition will take its regular Saturday workshop on the road for a special urban agriculture expedition on Saturday, June 25. From 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., participants will be led through The Food Project's exciting Roxbury spaces. After the tour, the group will engage in a short volunteer workblock in the greenhouse. Come to the Second Planning Meeting of the Dorchester Food Coop Initiative on Wednesday, May 25 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Meeting will take place at the Bowdoin Street Health Center, Large Conference Room, 230 Bowdoin Street, Dorchester, MA 02122.
