On Saturday, February 4 Give Kids a Smile (GKAS) will be held at Codman Square Health Center! From 9 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. dental staff will be volunteering their time to provide free dental care and education children, including examinations, professional cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants, restorations, oral surgery, and x-rays! On Wednesday, December 7, there will be a community forum at the Great Hall, 6 Norfolk Street, the fourth in this year's series of annual citywide health forums. The forum is hosted by the Boston Public Health Commission and Codman Square Neighborhood Council, the Boston Alliance for Community Health, and BOLD (Breath of Life Dorchester) Teens. At the meeting, the latest Health of Boston report information such as the consumption of sugar sweetened beverages, rates of resulting chronic disease, and recent health initiatives in the community and their impact. From 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Codman Square Health Center Food Pantry will be holding a turkey giveaway for clients of the food pantry. The Turkey Giveaway is during the normal hours of operation at Codman Square Health Center Food Pantry. To learn more about how you can become a client, please call 617.474.1422.To register, come to the center on the distribution day, and bring ID with address.

On December 17, Codman Square Health Center will be hosting their annual toy giveaway in the Great Hall! The event will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and include some holiday fun: games, food, drinks, and holiday cheer. To receive a free gift, you must be a patient of Codman Square Health Center. Do you remember Boston's busing / desegregation crisis? Were you or other members of your family affected? Do you think the history has an impact on public education or on our community today?
There will be a free screening of a new film, “Can We Talk?,” on Thursday, October 27, from 6:30 to 8:30 at the Great Hall of Codman Square Health Center. The film features personal stories from Boston’s busing and school desegregation crisis and invites you into a project to seek truth about that era, learn from it, and work for change in the schools and in the city based on what we learn.

Pink isn't the only color associated with Breast Cancer. Did you know that breast cancer is the most common cancer among Black women? Pink and Black Ambassadors are breast cancer patients and survivors who wish to end this health disparity by speaking out about prevention, treatment and survivorship. Codman Square Health Center will proudly present its annual fundraising event, Men of Boston Cook for Women’s Health 2011, on Thursday evening, September 22, 2011, from 6 to 9 p.m., to raise funds and awareness to improve women’s health in our community. The Health Center is dedicated to reducing health disparities in diseases such as breast cancer, diabetes, and HIV/AIDS. Each year, more than 1,000 supporters gather under the Gala Tent at 637 Washington St. in Dorchester, to enjoy delectable samplings from Boston’s finest restaurants, served by celebrity male chefs who represent a veritable "who's who" from Boston’s business, political, entertainment and hospitality worlds.

The 3rd Annual Garrison Awards will be held on Saturday, June 25th at Island Pride, 986 Blue Hill Avenue in Dorchester, MA.
