Free Dental Screenings @ Geiger Gibson Feb. 20

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month! In recognition of National Children’s Dental Health Month the Harbor Health Services Dental Centers will be providing FREE preventative services such as dental cleanings, dental x-rays, fluoride treatments, and sealants to kids and youth up to 18 years of age. Check in on Monday, February 20, 2012 from 9:00am-1:00pm at the Geiger Gibson Community Health Center-Dental Practice located at 250 Mount Vernon Street, in Dorchester. Free toothbrushes, dental floss, and much more! Healthy refreshments will be served. Carney Offers Free Prostate Cancer Screenings, Sep. 20

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. Carney Hospital will offer free screenings on September 20 from 5 to 7 p.m., in the Ambulatory Care Center, Basement Level of the hospital (follow signs to ACC). The hospital is located at 2100 Dorchester Avenue, Dorchester, MA 02124. Walk In is available, but you can make an appointment by calling Barbara Couzens at 617.506.2197. "Sickle Cellebration" Walk & Health Fair, Sep. 17

Greater Boston Sickle Cell Disease Association

Come walk, talk, eat, dance, learn, laugh and stay healthy! Greater Boston Sickle Cell Disease Association (GBSCDA) will hold the 6th Annual "Sickle Cellebration in the Park" Walk & Health Fair on Saturday, September 17th, 2011. The fair, which takes place in Franklin Park from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., features peformances, music, food and dance, free health screenings and a "Walk-A-Thon." Registration begins at 11 a.m. and the Walk-a-Thon kicks off at 12 p.m.

Healthy Girls, Healthy Women Fun Run Celebration and Skate Night, Aug. 25

HealthCome and join the youths and girls of Healthy Girls, Healthy Women in celebrating the work they have done around empowering girls in Boston to live healthier lives and become leaders. This event will take place on Thursday August 25th from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Orchard Gardens Community Center (2 Dearborn Street, Roxbury MA). There will be FREE food, FREE pairs of Saucony running shoes, FREE music, and FREE skating. Come with your friends and families.

How to get involved/application guidelines and procedures: 

Community residents of Roxbury, Dorchester, Mattapan, Hyde Park, South End, and Jamaica Plain, can attend the meetings. Religious organizations, business owners, and community based agencies are also encouraged to attend.

Key Programs Offered: 

Boston Healthy Start Initiative has been funded since 1991 to ensure that Black pregnant women receive quality health care by funding case management, health education, interconceptional care, and maternal depression services. If you self identify as a Black pregnant woman you will receive services through a case manager who has experience in maternal and child health issues. Fun in the Sun with WIC, Aug. 19

Come have fun in the sun with WIC in Franklin Park and enjoy free raffles, free giveaways and free prizes! "Fun in the Sun" will take place at the Franklin Park Zoo on Friday, August 19, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This is a free informational day to provide the community with WIC information and other services available to them such as Daycare, Nutrition, Health, Fuel Assistance, Insurance, Housing, Job, Playgroups and Libraries. This event will be held outside of the zoo’s zebra entrance (across from Peabody Circle). Event does not include admission to the zoo.

Training on AIDS and LGBT Community, Jun. 3

New England AIDS Education and Training CenterThe Medical Community is invited to attend a free New England AIDS Education Training Center session on Friday, June 3rd,  from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in Conference Room A of Codman Square Health Center, 637 Washington Street, Dorchester, MA. New England AIDS Education Training Center will return to present an AIDS/LGBT discussion led by Dr. Alex Gonzalez, MD, MPH. Participants will learn how to relate cultural variations that exist for LGBT patients to the potential impact on their access to primary care, create a welcoming, inclusive, clinical environment optimizing the delivery of primary care to LGBT populations and much more.
