Sk8 For Haiti Jan. 13 & 14

This MLK weekend, join Groovement for the first annual Sk8 for Haiti event, taking place Friday, January 13, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Saturday, January 14th, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The event is a fundraiser for the Matenwa Community Learning Center located in Lagonav, Haiti. "Sk8 for Matenwa" will be a 2 day skate benefit where a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Matenwa Community Learning Center. will be taking place at 11 Rhoades St. Suite 15 (Between Blue Hill Ave. and Frontenac Street) in Mattapan, 02124. Snowshoeing at Boston Nature Center!

Go for a wintery hike without leaving the city! When snow is on the ground, the public is welcome to go snowshoeing at Boston Nature Center! The center is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Snowshoe rental for 2 hours is $6.00 for members and $8.00 for nonmembers. Adult and child sizes are available! The center will also be hosting special events - a Guided Snowshoe Walk on Sunday, January 15 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. and a Family Snowshoe Walk on Saturday, January 21, 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Call ahead to ensure available snowshoes: 617.983.8500.

Being Thankful For My Community Day Nov. 5

Being Thankful 1The Boston Project Ministries and  TNT Neighbors United will host the 8th Annual "Being Thankful for my Community Day" on Saturday, November 5 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Volunteer for an hour or two, meet your neighbors, and have some fun! Meet at Elmhurst Children's Park on Elmhurst Street (from there, participants will split up into different service groups). After coffee and snacks, there will be a neighborhood cleanup. At noon is the potluck (those who help rake get to eat first), neighbor of the year award, and a big game of kickball!

Reopening of Martin Playground Oct. 22

Martin PlaygroundWelcome back a new and improved playground to Dorchester! The Martin Playground, located at 95 Myrtlebank Ave., has undergone a $374,000 renovation in the last year. On October 22, Mayor Menino will join Dorchester Residents to celebrate the reopening of the playground. The event will include face-painting, live music, refreshments, and fun - this is a playground, after all! The playground now has two age-appropriate structures, a new drinking fountain, and improved fencing and shade structures. Be there at 1:00 p.m. to join in!

YoPros vs. Teen Center Kickball Sep. 28

On Wednesday, September 28, the Teen Center at St. Peter's will be hosting a kickball game where teens and young professionals face off. The game will be indoors, and held rain or shine. Teens: are you feeling stressed out? Come to a free, teen only yoga class at the Dorchester House! The class will run from 2:45 to 4:00 p.m. on Fridays, September 23 to October 28, 2011. Join your peers in the Dorchester House Wellness Room for a great, relaxing time!

Bring a water bottle and wear comfortable gym clothes. No shoes required. Dorchester House will provide yoga mats. Come with an open positive mind! CHAMPS Boston All-Girls Celebration, Sep. 24

CHAMPS BostonOn Saturday, September 24, CHAMPS Boston will be hosting an "All Girls Celebration of CHAMPS" which will include physical activity classes (hip hop dance, step, zumba, etc), healthy cooking demonstrations and a coaches clinics for the adult coaches/youth workers/chaperones who work with young girls. The event will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Holland Community Center; 85 Olney Street in Dorchester, MA. Any coaches interested in being trained or bringing in female participants, should alert CHAMPS in order to be added to the invitation list. The capacity is 200 participants (ages 8-16 years old). Healthy Girls, Healthy Women Fun Run Celebration and Skate Night, Aug. 25

HealthCome and join the youths and girls of Healthy Girls, Healthy Women in celebrating the work they have done around empowering girls in Boston to live healthier lives and become leaders. This event will take place on Thursday August 25th from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Orchard Gardens Community Center (2 Dearborn Street, Roxbury MA). There will be FREE food, FREE pairs of Saucony running shoes, FREE music, and FREE skating. Come with your friends and families.
