Launched in 1990 with 28 young people in a church basement, YBB was the first replication of the YouthBuild model outside of New York. The mission of YouthBuild Boston Inc. (YBB) is to improve opportunities for young people of Boston by teaching skills that will equip them to support themselves and help develop personal and neighborhood responsibility. The guiding principle of YBB is "Youth or young adults, when treated as valuable resources, will realize that they can be partners in rebuilding their community". YBB realizes that the difficulties that young people face must be overcome by addressing the terrible and overwhelming lack of empowerment that they often feel. These feelings are reinforced by a society that views them as part of the problem, and not the solution. YBB recognizes that these individuals are capable of and vital to improving their lives and the condition of their community.
YBB has been successful since its inception. YBB, along with other agencies has contributed to the vibrancy of the community. Consistent funding from the Department of Housing and Urban Development, AmeriCorps, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, YouthBuild USA, the private foundation community, corporations, and individuals, has enabled us to serve Boston youth.

To improve the lives of Portuguese-speaking individuals and families from Massachusetts and help them become contributing, active participants in American society while maintaining strong ethnic identity and a sense of community.

MAPS works with and for the Brazilian, Cape Verdean, Portuguese and other Portuguese-speaking communities to increase access and remove barriers to health, education and social services through direct services, advocacy, leadership and community development.

The Teen Center at St. Peter’s serves teens ages 15 to 19 from the Bowdoin/Geneva neighborhood of Dorchester. Through the center, adolescents of the mid-Dorchester corridor have work opportunities, access to various support services, as well as a safe place to recreate. Work and activities aim to provide the skills necessary for academic success, while also increasing self-esteem and enhancing the perception of teens as a positive force in the community. While teens of all races are encouraged to participate, the program is particularly focused on the area’s Cape Verdean adolescents who have been disproportionately involved in area violence.

The program addresses the unique needs of high-risk urban youth and their families by placing licensed clinical social workers in district police stations throughout the city. YSPN social workers receive referrals from police officers, incident reports, Boston Cares and walk-ins. YSPN services include intake/assessment, crisis intervention, advocacy, referral, clinical case management and ongoing individual and family therapy. Additionally, when there is an incidence of community violence, YSPN provides critical incident trauma services to individuals, groups, and the community. Since its inception in 1996, YSPN has served more than 8,000 youth (80% between the ages of 13-21) and families from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds.
