Healthy Kids, Healthy Futures Open Gym

Join Healthy Kids, Healthy Futures for Open Gym - a free play program for families with children ages 3 - 8 to get up, out and moving together!  Open gym is drop-in, no pre-registration is required. Parent participation is required at open gym. Open gym is held Saturdays, from 10:00am to 11:30am at the BCYF Recreation Center at Madison Park (55 Malcolm X Blvd., Building #4, Roxbury, MA 02119).

The Winter/Spring session will run from Saturday February 4 - Saturday April 14, 2012. There will be no Open Gym on March 3 or March 10.

Signup for St. Mark's Wainright February Vacation Program

The St. Mark Wainwright Youth Program of St. Mark Parish will host a February school vacation week program.  The program will be Tuesday, February 21 - Friday, February 24, 9am-5:30pm in St. Mark School Hall, for youth ages 6-18. (There is no program on Monday, February 20, in honor of President's Day). The cost is $20 for the week for the first child, and $10 for each additional child. The daily program will include games, recreation, academic enrichment, guest speakers, art, lunch, and snack!

Comics Writing Workshop @ 826 Boston

Learn to brainstorm, script, and draw your own original comic! 826 Boston will be hosting a two-session workshop with instructor Amy Collier from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, and 3:00 to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 11. Winter Vacation @ Symphony Hall, Feb 20-24

If you have a child in grades K-3, and would like to give them the oppurtunity to participate in a unique program over the Febraury Vacation, then consider Winter Vacation at The Symphony Hall.  See attached files for forms to fill out, financial assistance, and further information.

This unique program will give children the opportunity to experience the magic of Symphony Hall, get an inside look 

at the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and develop musical skills that will encourage and inspire them to learn a musical instrument. No previous musical experience necessary!

City Spotlights Spoken Word Project

Citi Performing Arts Center and Dudley Branch Library are looking for youth ages 11-19 for its winter City Spotlights Spoken Word Project. In this FREE program, participants will develop spoken word, storytelling and performing arts skills while exploring hip hop culture. No prior experience is required. Participants must be able to attend all sessions. Sessions will run from January 11 to February 15, on Wednesdays, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Dudley Branch Library. For more information, please call 617.532.1221.

Boston Youth Zone Summer Teen Employment Program Accepting Applications Feb 1st!

The Boston Youth Fund (BYF) provides thousands of Boston's teens 15 - 17 years of age with summer jobs. BYF participants work in the community and in faith-based and government agencies. Earn money and gain meaningful skills in jobs such as administrative assistants, mural painters, peer leaders and more! Youth MUST apply with the Hopeline to become eligible. The application period opens February 1, 2012 and ends March 2, 2012. To Be Eligible for the BYF Summer Employment Program, You:

  • Must turn 15 years old on or before July 8, 2012
  • Cannot turn 18 years old on or before August 17, 2012
  • Must be a Full-Time resident of the City of Boston
  • Must be legally permitted to work in Massachusetts and the United States

Applying with the Hopeline does not guarantee a summer job. Teens must apply themselves - parents & other adults are not permitted to apply for a teen. Profiles in Courage Essay Contest, Deadline Jan. 7

The Profiles in Courage essay contest, which takes place yearly, asks high school students from across the country to write an original essay about an elected official who has demonstrated political courage. Winners of the contest will receive awards totaling up to $13,500. The deadline to submit is January 7. For more information, see the contest's website!

Public Swim Time Fees: 16 & Under: $ 2.00 / 17 – 59: $ 6.00 / 60 & Up: $ 2.00

 

Membership Prices:

Family of 4, 2 adults & 2 children (16 & under) Annually $400.

Note; all must be in same family for these additional family member prices.

 

Each additional child: $80. Each additional adult: $160. Each additional senior $60.

Adult Membership: 17 & up: Annual: $250.

 

Youth Membership: 16 years of age & under: Annual: $120.

Senior Membership: 60 years & up

The Food Project is Hiring: Summer Youth Program!

The Food Project needs Crew Workers and Leaders for their Summer Youth Program, a 6 1/2 week program where over 100 youth grow and distribute thousands of pounds of organic produce, and learn leadership, teamwork, diversity, and civic participation.

Crew workers must be between the ages of 14 and 17, and have completed 8th grade. Crews work on suburban and urban farms: weed, harvest, wash, plant crops; sell produce at Farmers' Markets; prep/serve lunches at hunger relief orgs. Stipend of $200 a week. Transportation passes provided by The Food Project. The work day is 9 am to 4 pm.

Crew Leaders must be between the ages of 20 and 27 and have an interest in working with youth, an open mind, be organized and responsible. Crew Leaders must be available between June 21 and August 17, 2012, with a stipend of $520 a week. For more information about the program, check out the Summer Youth Program's website! Early Care and Education, 0-6 years old:

The Early Care and Education program focuses on social and academic school readiness using developmentally age-appropriate curriculum that includes literacy, math, science, the arts, and physical development. 

After-School Care, Out of School Time, 6-13 years old:

The After-School program provides enriching environments for school-aged children during the school year and school vacations.  Programs emphasize social and academic development that includes literacy, math, science, the arts and physical development.
