Howard Art Project Call For Submissions: Net Works

Howard Art Project, a gallery, studio, and performance space new to Fields Corner, has announced a call for submissions, in conjunction with MOLTENi NET WORKS! Over a year ago, NCAA (New Craft Artists in Action) team captain launched MOLTENi NET WORKS in Boston. Brinking together makers and players in collaborative exchange, the project aims to create functional, hand-crafted basketball nets for neglected public hoops without nets. The project is designed to inspire creative problem solving, urban upkeep, and to link artists, athletes, and neighbors. The project has spread as far as South Africa - do you have any ideas for a net you would like to see in Dorchester? Check out the projects website here.

Slots still available for Days in the Arts at Tanglewood

MusicA limited number of slots are still available for Boston residents to attend the Boston Symphony Orchestra's summer program, Days in the Arts at Tanglewood (DARTS)!  Days in the Arts at Tanglewood is a five day arts-immersion sleepover program in the Berkshires for kids who are just completing 5th, 6th and 7th grades in Massachusetts. The camp serves a total of 400 students per summer and there are a maximum of only 50 students per week.  DARTS students choose a workshop area (instrumental music, visual arts, vocal music, dance, or theater/drama) in which they will focus during the week, but the students will be exposed to and experience activities in all areas of the arts.   Tuition is $250 for Boston residents and  includes housing, transportation during the program and between Boston and the Berkshires, all meals, tickets and admissions for the week.

We currently have space available during most weeks of the program, which begins on June 27th and goes through August 19th. Note that students may only attend DARTS once as a camper, for one week.

To register for DARTS, please visit www.bso.org and download a Boston resident application (located in the Education Section of the site, where there is information about Days in the Arts). Make sure to circle the week(s) you are available, and a DARTS staff member will contact you to place you in a week that we still have availability. Right now, we have the most availability in weeks 2 (July 4-8), 4 (July 18-22), 6 (Aug. 1-5), 7 (Aug. 8-12), and 8 (Aug. 11-15), though slots could become available in all the weeks if we have students who have to drop out at the last minute. We will place students as soon as we have your registration form and deposit. A limited amount of financial assistance is available, and you should contact the DARTS office (darts@bso.org) to request an application.

To receive  more information or an application for the program, please contact the DARTS office at the Boston Symphony Orchestra by email at darts@bso.org.

Creative Capital Film/Video Grant opens Feb 1

Creative Capital's next grant round, for Film/Video and Visual Arts, will open on February 1, 2011.

To be eligible to apply, an artist must be:

A U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident
At least 25 years old
A working artist with at least five years of professional experience
Not a full-time student
Though the Inquiry Form will not be available until February 1, complete grant guidelines are now available on our website. We will also be hosting info sessions online and in select cities nationwide.

About the Projects We Fund
Creative Capital provides integrated financial and advisory support to artists pursuing innovative and adventurous projects. Acting as a catalyst for the development of exceptional and imaginative ideas, we support artists whose work is provocative, timely and relevant; who are deeply engaged with their artforms and demonstrate a rigorous commitment to their craft, yet are also boldly original and push the boundaries of their genre; who create work that carries the potential to reshape the cultural landscape.

About the Application Process
To apply for a Creative Capital grant, an artist must first submit an online Inquiry Form regarding his or her project. The Inquiry Form for Film/Video and Visual Arts will be available on the Creative Capital website on February 1, 2011. Inquiry Forms must be submitted by March 1, 2011. After the Inquiry phase, selected applicants will advance through two further application phases during the year, and grantees will be announced in January 2012. The Inquiry Form will reopen in February 2012 for Emerging Fields, Innovative Literature and Performing Arts.

About the Inquiry Form
Applying artists should be prepared to describe how a grant would be a catalyst for artistic and professional growth at this time, the influences that inform their work, and how their work takes an inventive and original approach to form and content. The Inquiry Form also asks for a total budget figure and for artists to identify audience(s) for their project and any possible presenting venues.
