Mission: 

Worker Education Program (WEP), is a non-profit workplace education program. The mission of WEP is to provide worker-centered educational and training opportunities to entry-level unionized workers. WEP partners with employers and unions to offer classes that help workers communicate better in English, increase their literacy skills, improve their math, acquire high school diplomas, explore career advancement, or prepare for college. Since 1991, WEP has served over 4,000 Massachusetts workers.

WEP currently offers 12 classes at five sites. WEP classes are funded by grants from the Massachusetts Department of Secondary and Elementary Education, English for New Bostonians, and First Literacy. WEP is a provider for the 1199SEIU Training and Upgrading Fund Massachusetts Division.

Mission: 

The Boston Community Partnerships for Children exists to ensure access to a high quality early educational experience, regardless of setting, for all of Boston's children and their families.

The Boston Community Partnerships for Children works to ensure that parents and families of children ages 0-8 have access to quality child care. Community Partnerships brings together all sectors (center based, family child care, head start and public schools) of the early childhood community in Boston to make child care better and more affordable.

Currently, the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) funds the work of the Community Partnerships program through annual grants. Boston uses its annual grant to improve the quality of care offered by participating providers. All providers are welcome to join their neighborhood cluster and participate.

Neighborhood Cluster Agents: Local planning and coordination are critical components to our work. Since Boston is a large city with various needs in each neighborhood, we have created Neighborhood-based clusters. At the cluster level, one agency serves as neighborhood cluster agent and convenes meetings, coordinates cluster plans and activities, represents the cluster at citywide Community Partnerships Council Meetings, reports back to cluster members on citywide programs and activities, and acts as business agent for the cluster.

Mission: 

My Dot Tour is a project of the Fields Corner Collaborative (FCC). FCC is a group of non-profit organizations concerned with touting the history and architecture of Fields Corner for increased economic development and social capital, as well as with supporting and strengthening youth leadership skills. The organizations include: the Dorchester Environmental Health Coalition, Dorchester Historical Society, Fields Corner Main Street, Historic Boston Incorporated, and SCI Dorchester/Dotwell. The 2011 Tour coordinator is Kate Balug.

2010’s My Dot Tour established a walking tour route, map, and live walking tour created and presented by teen participants.

My Dot Tour 2011 is a new and improved version of the tour that will emphasize residents’ contributions and will feature expanded methods of disseminating tour content through cell phone technology and other media. FCC thanks the Boston Foundation for Architecture for contributing grant funding for the Tour.

Healthy Futures is a state- and federally-funded health program that educates teens in the areas of sexuality, healthy relationships, and self-respect through medically-accurate information and interactive skits and demonstrations. Connecting youth with music and opportunity: The Dorchester Music Clubhouse, located at the Paul R. McLaughlin Youth Center, is a place where music, fun, education, and expression come together. Come in and learn to play an instrument, practice what you know, start a band, record or write a song, meet your friends, or make new ones. See a performance, talk about your favorite music, hear new music, or take part in a workshop. Don’t forget about performances and field trips.

The Dorchester Music Clubhouse is also a gateway into the amazing City Music Program, sponsored by Berklee College of Music for Middle School and High School students to prepare for a Berklee Education!

  • Youth Programs
    Community Health Career Internships: Summer health internships for teens. Daily schedule includes one hour of workshop time focused on key life skills areas including civic engagement, job readiness, financial literacy and wellness. Internships can include administrative, clinical, youth programming and recreation placements. 
    Skills for Life: Highly interactive class for teens combining lessons in personal finance with career exploration by making field trips to Harvard Business School, the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and other organizations.
  • Dorchester FAMILY School Initiative: The Dorchester FAMILY School Initiative (DFSI) is a multi-organizational partnership that connects three public elementary schools in central Dorchester with health and social service organizations, colleges, other enrichment groups, and parents.
