Ashmont Hill Chamber Music presents “Music, Poetry and American Identity,” on Sunday, May 22 at 7 p.m. in Peabody Hall at the Parish of All Saints, 209 Ashmont Street, Dorchester. The Ashmont Hill Chamber Players will explore the world of Ruth Crawford Seeger (1901-1953), an early 20th century Modernist composer, who was inspired by the poems of Carl Sandburg. Poet Regie O’Hare-Gibson will first recite Sandburg’s poems, then mezzo-soprano D’Anna Fortunato will sing Crawford Seeger’s setting of the poems. The concert program also includes works by other 20th-century American composers including Jacob Druckman, Samuel Barber, Alec Wilder, Aaron Copland, and Charles Ives.
