Got Talent | January 31

Friday January 31 between 6pm-8:30pm, "Got Talent" Youth Talent Showcase will be taking place in the Joseph Lee School Auditorium at the Perkins Community Center (155 Talbot Avenue Dorchester, MA). This showcase is to have youth & families from all genres of interest come and all neighborhoods of the city to display their artistic expression on stage for the enjoyment of all.

The "Got Talent" showcase series was formed in 2009 via collaboration between Matt Parker- a heralded youth worker in the communities of Boston, and the Perkins Community Center Youth Program staff. Several succesful events over the years made this a premier venue for youth talent. Now back to kick off the 2014 year, the Got Talent Showcase is sure to be a fun time!

The Eliot School Arts Collaborative

Holmes School Arts Program

Art is in at the Lee Academy, Holmes and Lee afterschool programs. Students have been learning about  poetry, painting, photography, and, most importantly, self-expression through the arts. As an artist, the students work together and as individuals to understand the large variety of ways to express themselves creatively.  Ms. Bridget is an artist herself. According to Bridget,"Art making around others takes trust and respect". Through the Elliot School of Fine and Applied Arts, Ms. Bridget visits these elementary school students and helps them understand the complexities and importance of being an artist for yourself. On a weekly basis, these students are producing masterpieces of their own.

Community Meeting on Redistricting, May 14

Massachusetts Seal Redistricting is coming to your community! Redistricting is the process of redrawing the districts that public officials, including Congress, state Senate, state House of Representatives, and Governor's Council are elected from and represent. It is required by the state constitution to be conducted every ten years. A Dorchester meeting will take place on May 14, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Joseph Lee Elementary School, 155 Talbot Avenue, Dorchester Ctr, MA 02124-2904. Why participate? Redistricting determines who will represent you and affects election outcomes. Fair redistricting will give your community a voice and access to the political process. Finally, redistricting can encorage civic engagement.
