Job Opening: Grove Hall Community Organizer

Project R.I.G.H.T. Inc., a non-profit organization serving the residents of North Dorchester and Roxbury, is looking for an organized professional with great communication and outreach skills to be a vital part of a team that coordinates the overall community organizing efforts of Project R.I.G.H.T. Inc. The position includes working with various partners in numerous organizing initiatives.

 

  • Being a vital part of the coordination of all community organizing efforts of existing and future organizing efforts within Greater Grove Hall.
  • The recruitment of adults and youth from Grove Hall (Roxbury/North Dorchester) to lead and/or participate in grass root community organizing initiatives.
  • Coordinate activities/trainings/meetings for residents that develop leadership and promote participation in the civic and community building efforts within Greater Grove Hall.
  • Work in partnership with youth and community residents, and our leadership to explore issues affecting them and their families related to a range of issues that include: youth violence, public safety, the creation of safe havens, mental health, education, tobacco/drug addiction, community development, and quality of life issues to develop resident led action oriented strategies for change.
  • Work closely with partner organizations on community organizing initiatives.
  • Conduct community outreach, assessments, and evaluations to determine organizing initiative/program effectiveness.
  • Facilitate positive communication and build relationships between Project R.I.G.H.T. Inc. and community based organizations and residents.
  • Responsible for data collection, grant reporting and evaluation, including preparation of outcome measurement reports.

Qualifications Include:

 

  • A commitment to working within the communities of color and a very diverse population.
  • Experience working with at-risk youth.
  • Interpersonal and cultural sensitivity.
  • Great communication and written skills.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus.
  • B.A.  and/or related experience (3 to 5 years+) in community planning, programs for urban youth and community organizing experience.  Applicant must have excellent management, interpersonal, and computer skills. Must be willing to work some weekends and evenings.
