Mission:
To provide low income high-risk youth with all of the critical programs and services that allow inner city children and youth to rise above poverty, to become the first in their families to graduate from college, to lead the community as a place of peace and prosperity, and to thrive as the adults of tomorrow.

Board Committees
Community members are welcome to join and contribute their expertise to our Board Committees, including marketing, finance, personnel, events, nominating, and resource development. Please contact Andrea Kaiser, Executive Director, at (617) 282-6110, ext. 21 if you are interested in joining a Board Committee.
Charge for services:
Weekly fees depend on family income. Summer day getaway is $300/week. Scholarships and subsidized slots available. Child care vouchers accepted.
Key Programs Offered:
- SACC (School Age Child Care)
Massachussetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) licensed, 5 day per week after-school program designed for working parents of children ages 5-13. SACC operates from 2:00 to 6:00 pm during regular school days. On school vacations, SACC offers full-day care from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm (small additional fee required for vacation weeks). The program's activities include homework support, literacy, math coaching, science, arts, chess and Spanish Clubs, recreation, computers, field trips and special events.
SACC programs operate out of seven different sites:
- The Bird Street Community Center at 500 Columbia Road, Dorchester
- David A. Ellis School at 302 Walnut Avenue, Roxbury
- R.W. Emerson School at 6 Shirley Street, Roxbury
- the Nathan Hale School at 51 Cedar Street, Roxbury
- William E. Russell Elementary School, 750 Columbia Road, Dorchester
- Ellis Mendell Elementary School, 164 School Street, Roxbury
- Orchard Gardens K-8 School, 906 Albany Street, Roxbury
- New in the Fall of 2009: the Higginson Lewis K2-8 School, 131 Walnut Ave, Roxbury
- Youth Development
Serves youth ages 10-22. Services include the teen center, academic support, youth leadership training, workforce development (including part-time academic year and summer youth employment), life-skills classes, arts and culture, critical thinking skills, community service, recreation, organized sports, and youth violence prevention. There are over 50 programs for young people to choose from! Membership is $15 per year plus a $5 refundable locker fee. Some field trips and special activities have separate fees. Scholarships are available for both memberships and activities.
- Summer Day Getaway
Day camp located at Hale Reservation in Westwood, MA. Camp is Monday-Friday, 7:30AM-5:45PM. This nature program features boating, kayaking, free swim, archery, a ropes course, step classes, sports, and field trips on Fridays. Breakfast, lunch, and snack are provided, and transportation is provided roundtrip from the Bird Street Community Center.
