Description:

Mayor Menino’s Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Campaign is
entering its seventh year of providing free tax preparation to low and
moderate-income taxpayers and increasing EITC awareness.  The EITC is a federal tax credit that can
return up to $4,536 to qualified taxpayers.
The 2007 Boston’s EITC Campaign served almost 9,000 households to return
$15 million dollars in refunds to taxpayers.

An EITC Ambassador has a key leadership role in this
campaign. Each Ambassador will educate one of Boston’s major immigrant
communities about the EITC and available free tax preparation sites by doing
outreach at various organizations and ESL classes and offering site support as
interpreters and tax preparers.  The EITC
Campaign is looking for a bicultural/bilingual individual who speaks English
and Cape Verdean Creole.  The ambassador
must be knowledgeable about this community in Boston and be committed to
helping new workers build assets and secure their financial futures.

Primary Responsibilities:

·   Attend Boston EITC Coalition sponsored
training in: Basic tax law and tax preparation, community outreach, and
specific tax issues affecting new immigrant populations.

·  Identify media sources and community network
channels for distributing information about the EITC.

·  Distribute community-specific EITC
information and make presentations at community centers, businesses, housing
developments, and other key locations.

·  Assist clients in getting their taxes
prepared at our free sites and in gaining access to financial literacy
resources.

·  Help recruit
bilingual volunteers and taxpayers to our free sites.

A stipend of $3000 to $3500 is provided for Ambassadors’
efforts throughout the tax season. Ambassadors will work part-time about 10
hours per week during tax season (December 1st to Mid April).
