MBTA Continues With Fairmount Corridor Rehabilitation Project Columbia Road Bridge Installation To Begin

Description:

On Monday, September 8 --- The contractor working for the
MBTA on the Fairmount Corridor Rehabilitation Project will begin erection of
the Columbia Road Bridge.  Work will begin at the south end of the
bridge (Richfield St.
and Columbia Terrace) and proceed northward.

DETOURS ARE NECESSARY

Traffic on Columbia
Road will be detoured alternately between
southbound and northbound both during the day and at night.  Please pay attention to the detours as they
will alternate frequently for the first two weeks during the initial erection.  Parking will be eliminated during the first
two weeks, along the northbound side of Columbia Road from Columbia Terrace to Quincy Street to
allow for the storage of the main girders.
Parking along Columbia Terrace will also be eliminated for the first two
weeks of work for crane access. After the first two weeks the parking
restrictions will be lifted and traffic detours will be set up sporadically
throughout the month of October.

Work will take place for four to
five weeks. Every week the Monday though Saturday day shift hours will be 6:00AM to 6:00 PM (primarily bolting
and welding).  The first two weeks will
consist of setting the main bridge girders and therefore require adding a night
shift. During this time a night shift will be implemented from Monday through
Friday during the hours of 9:00PM to
5:00AM.

NOTE:  During the first two weekends (9/13-14 and
9/20-21) work will be continuous throughout the weekend.

The MBTA thanks you
for your patience and understanding during this necessary work.  Please call 617-222-6757 with
