Dorchester Mayor Contest!
Come One, Come All, Dorchester residents to campaign to be the next honorary Mayor of Dorchester!
The Dorchester Day Parade Committee is looking for a few good neighbors to compete for the bestowed title as the honorary Mayor of Dorchester. This year IS the year to compete and win! Candidates will have the chance to receive the coveted Mayor’s medallion, be the mayor of Dorchester for one year and will have the respect and thanks of his or her neighbors. The Mayor will also have the honor to march at the front of this the 53rd continuous parade on Sunday, June 7, 2015 and will be invited to participate in all of the Dorchester Day events until the next mayor is elected.
Mayor of Dorchester Contest Rules:
- To be eligible, the candidate must be a current or past resident of Dorchester, MA. Owners or employees of Dorchester businesses are also eligible.
- Those interested in participating in this contest must first officially register with the Parade Committee by attending one of the following meetings:
-March/April Dorchester Day Parade Committee meeting on Tuesday 3/24/2015
-Tuesday 4/14/2015 at the Ramada Inn, 800 Morrissey Blvd. in the breakfast room at 7:00 p.m.
- To the extent possible, the names and addresses of all donors should be recorded on the Mayor of Dorchester sheets, along with their donation in the appropriate column, i.e. check or cash. The totals on the sheets must match the amounts turned in to the Committee.
- If any donations are turned in to a Mayor of Dorchester candidate by check made out to the “Dorchester Day Parade Committee,” the candidate needs to write their name in the memo section before turning it in to the Parade Committee. This way, the committee will know who should receive credit for that donation.
- The Parade Committee does not officially endorse any candidate in advance for Mayor of Dorchester contest, and we hope that several candidates register prior to the deadline. Please make sure that you avoid any language implying Parade Committee sponsorship or endorsement of your candidacy, although you should say that funds raised will go toward the Dorchester Day Parade.
- You can raise money:
-Any Way You Want… Be creative, be enthusiastic and be the best! Host parties, functions, raffles, have fun events, some have even sold bumper stickers and held lawns hostage by pink flamingos. Do whatever is original and exciting, however, do it legally.
-If you hold special events to raise funds or promote your candidacy, you are responsible for obtaining any licenses and/or permits required by law.
-Please keep all of your receipts for your expenses and upon request, plan to turn them in to the Committee with all of your funds raised at the contest deadline. The winner of the contest will be the one who turns in the most money.
*The deadline for turning in your donations for this contest is Tuesday, May 19th, 2015, at 7:00 P.M. This deadline may be changed at the Parade Committee’s discretion.
Registration for the Mayor of Dorchester contest will remain open until the meeting on Tuesday, April 14th.
