From 1966 - 1978, Elma Lewis brought summer performances to Franklin Park and helped bring the park back from neglect and disuse. Today, in response to huge community interest and to draw diverse Boston residents into the park, the Franklin Park Coalition (FPC) has revived the Playhouse....with concerts, theatre, and dance performances.
Summer concerts every Tuesday morning and evening throughout July and August.
Morning shows target summer camps and youth programs but also bring elder groups to the park - bring a picnic lunch and stay for the day!
Evening concerts are for everyone.
For lots more information about the Playhouse please visit FPC's website.

This branch is threatened with closure! Help by attending a benefit on April 14 at Ledge.
From Lower Dot:
The Trustees of the Boston Public Library have made a purposeful choice to close the Lower Mills library (and branches in East Boston, Brighton, and South Boston) and we are asking that as community members you take action to help prevent this from happening. In Lower Mills, the library serves such an important role as place for both education and community building and closing it jeopardizes the centerpiece of this section of the neighborhood, one that has existed since 1875. >>Read More
Community takes vote on proposed Boston Public Library Budget at City Wide Stakeholders’ Meeting
A coalition of residents from across Boston will be congregating at the Cathedral of St. Paul’s to discuss the proposed budget from the Boston Public Library Trustees. The BPL Trustees plan to announce branch closings and cuts to service throughout the system without serious input from patrons or library workers. The community is infuriated at the rush to close branches and slash 25% of services for an 8% budget gap. The discussion will be chaired by Ms. Sarah Ann Shaw and blessed by Rev. June Cooper of the City Mission Society. Workers, community members, Library Friends, and others will be the key speakers. The community will vote on the Trustees recommendations and pledge to take action. >>Read More
