The park's landscape advisor is amping up the plant collection already in place, so more annuals and perennial flowers and shrubs are on their way. UCNWA meeting Jan 10: St Kevin's developers to present

At their first 2012 meeting on Tuesday Jan 10th, the Upham's Corner Westside Neighborhood Association is expecting representatives from POUA (the Planning Office for Urban Affairs affiliated with the Boston Archdiocese), the developer working on the plans for the St Kevin's property, to be first on the agenda with current plans and status of the project. 

The meeting will be at 6:30 PM in the usual meeting location, the Uphams Corner Health Center (415 Columbia Road) - ask at the front desk for the room location. UCWNA encourages interested folks to attend, since this is an important issue for the future of Uphams Corner. For more information contact Bob, and/or see flyer attached below.

Music @ the Ashmont Farmers' Market, Sept 30

Enjoy music at the September 30, 2011 Ashmont / Peabody Square Farmers Market!

The Pan United Steel Drum Orchestra will provide the musical theme for the farmers' market this Friday, performing starting at 5 p.m.

Market vendors include Spring Brook Farm of Littleton, Langwater Farm of North Easton, and Dorchester's own Cedar Grove Gardens and Dot-2-Dot Cafe! Representatives from the Dorchester Environmental Health Coalition (DEHC) will also be there as usual, with interesting information and freebies.

The market runs every Friday, 3 - 7 PM through October 14 on the Ashmont Station Plaza. It accepts SNAP/Food Stamp benefits, WIC and Senior Nutrition coupons. SNAP shoppers can get up to $20 worth of veggies at half price through the Boston Bounty Bucks program!

The Food Project Seeks Community Greenhouse Proposals, Deadline Jul. 20

The Food ProjectThe Food Project (TFP), with support from the Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative (DSNI), is seeking partners to share community space in the recently opened Dudley Greenhouse. The Dudley Greenhouse is a 10,000-square-foot facility in the Dudley Neighborhood of Roxbury. Owned by DSNI and leased by The Food Project, the greenhouse operates year-round as a food production and educational space.

Space is open to groups serving the neighborhoods of Roxbury, Dorchester and Mattapan, with priority given to projects that directly serve the Dudley Neighborhood. The RFP can be found attached to this post, and on The Food Project website. Applications are due July 20th, 2011.

Interested groups and individuals are encouraged to visit the greenhouse and meet with the Greenhouse Manager Danielle Andrews in advance of submitting a proposal. The greenhouse is open to the public on Tuesdays from 3 to 6 p.m., Thursdays from 1 to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 to 12:30 p.m. Appointments can also be made by contacting Danielle via email or phone (617-442-1322 x13). Dorchester Garden Council meets every 1st Tuesday

Boston Natural Areas NetworkAs community gardening gains momentum with the renovation of the Nightingale Community Garden, Boston Natural Areas network (BNAN) has created the Dorchester Garden Council, the first neighborhood garden council in the city. The Dorchester Garden Council is comprised of gardeners and garden supporters and staffed by BNAN, and will be a local clearinghouse of support and ideas for gardening in Dorchester, connecting to residents, local groups and institutions and programs serving all ages.  The council meets in Dorchester the first Tuesday of the month from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  If you would like to learn more about the garden council, or how to get involved in community gardening in your Dorchester neighborhood, please contact BNAN at info@bostonnatural.org or call the BIGG Project Manager Grantley Payne at 617-542-7696 x21. >> Read More
