Express Yourself/Black History Month | February 6

Thursday, February 6, 2014, between 4-5pm the Codman Sq Library Branch (located at 690 Washington St.) in Dorchester, will host an Express Yourself/Black History Month

What does Black History mean to you? What does it mean today? What does it mean for previous generations? Share your story with your friends and local activists/writers in lively conversation or express yourself in poetry or prose to read aloud.

This event is free and is open to teens ages 13-18

Oscars on the Avenue | March 2

Join St. Mark's Area Main Street Sunday, March 2 at 7pm,on the red carpet for a fabulous evening of delicious food, great friends, and LOTS of fun as we celebrate the Academy Awards!

Sunday, March 2, marks the return of Oscars on the Avenue – SMAMS’ biggest fundraiser of the year. This community celebration of the Academy Awards will feature delicious Tavolo hors d’oeuvres, our own “Joan Rivers” and awards, a fantastic auction, and more!

Tickets are $75 in advance (until 5:00pm Feb. 28) and $90 at the door. All proceeds will support the work of St. Mark’s Area Main Street.

Celebrating Black History with Music | February 12

Wednesday, February 12 between 4pm-6pm, Boston musician, Bill Lowe (trombonist and tubaist) will connect children with Black History Month through music.

Celebrate MLK Legacy: "I Have A Dream" | February 18

On Tuesday, February 18 between 1pm to 2pm

The Holland Community Center would like to invite the community to a free interactive reading of Kadir Nelson’s “I Have A Dream” picture book inspired by the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as performed by Citi Center Teaching Artist, Toni "Bee" Brooks.

Ward 15 Democrats caucus to elect delegates | February 8

The Ward 15 (Dorchester) Democratic Party Committee announces their annual caucus on February 8, 2014 at 8:30am. The purpose of the caucus is to elect delegates and alternates to the 2014 Massachusetts Democratic Party Convention. At the convention delegates will vote to endorse candidates for statewide offices (Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, Auditor, Secretary of State, State Treasurer). Dorchester Youth Hockey Reunion, Games and Reception | February 8

All day Saturday February 8 the Dorchester Youth Hockey will host their Reunion Fundraiser, Alumni Game and Cocktail Reception. Players, coaches, family and friends of Neponset Youth Hockey, Dorchester Lower Mills Youth Hockey and Dorchester Youth Hockey are all welcome. You don't have to play to attend reception!
