Free Saturday H1N1 Flu Clinics

There will be two H1N1 flu clinics held this Saturday, November 21 in Dorchester starting at 9am, one at Codman Square Health Center, and one at Dorchester House Multi-Service Center.

Codman Square Health Center will provide vaccines only for those at higher risk of getting the flu (i.e. pregnant women; household contacts and caregivers for children younger than 6 months; healthcare and emergency medical services personnel; young people from 6 months through 24 years of age; people aged 25-64 who have health conditions that put them at risk for serious complications from the flu) from 9am to 2pm. The vaccine is in short supply, so arrive early to ensure you receive your shot. Contact Mary Taylor at 617-822-8270 for more information.

Dorchester House Multi-Service Center will provide vaccines for everyone from 9am to 1pm, but encourages only those at higher risk of getting the flu (i.e. pregnant women; household contacts and caregivers for children younger than 6 months; healthcare and emergency medical services personnel; young people from 6 months through 24 years of age; people aged 25-64 who have health conditions that put them at risk for serious complications from the flu) to attend. Haunted House at the B3 Police Station, Oct. 29

Station B3 is holding a FREE Haunted House this Thursday, October 29th at the Police Station at 1165 Blue Hill Avenue, Rhodes Street parking lot. The event benefits a local food bank, so please bring a canned food item to donate.

There will be a:
- moon bounce
- live entertainment
- tour of the haunted house held inside the station!

The event is open to ALL children 12 and under, who must be accompanied by an adult. It is sponsored by the Mayor's Office of Arts, Tourism, and Special Events, and District B-3, Captain James M. Claiborne, Commander.

Fall Civic Social & Candidates' Night, Oct. 28

To that end, four of Greater Neponset's civic associations have joined forces to present a Candidates Night / Fall Social at the Murphy School at 7 Worrell St. on Oct 28, 7-9 p.m.

You are cordially invited to come listen to the At-Large candidates for the Boston City Council while renewing old acquaintances or making new ones. Politicking & Socializing….what a great way to spend an Autumn evening!! This event will be a catered affair with food and drink for all.

Halloween Party at Codman Square Library, Oct. 29

It's that spooky time of year again! The Codman Square Library at 690 Washington Street is presenting their annual Halloween party from 5pm to 7pm this Thursday evening, the 29th of October.

This party will feature the spooky storytelling of professional storyteller Carolyne Martino, crafts, the freeze dance, and goodie bags. Great for kids!

White Chrome Throwdown!, Oct. 24

Baristas representing more than twenty independent Boston-area cafes will gather at Flat Black Coffee Company for a three-hour competition to determine the winner of the first annual "White Chrome Throwdown." Each competitor will prepare espresso, latte/cappuccino art, and original signature drinks in a five-minute performance set to music. >> Read More

At-Large City Council Candidates Duke It Out, Oct. 22

The remaining Boston At-Large City Council Candidates will debate about "Parks and Open Space" at the Franklin Park Golf Clubhouse this Thursday, October 22nd, from 6:30 to 8pm. The eight finalists will share their ideas about how to improve and support our urban parks. Pam Cross, WCVB-TV Channel 5 News Anchor, will moderate.

Get Your Flu Shot at Dorchester House and Codman Square Health Center

You can get your seasonal flu vaccine for free or a small fee at the CSHC or DHMSC from September through December 2009.

- Codman Square Health Center Flu Clinics are free for patients. You don't need an appointment for a flu vaccine. The health center will have flu clinics in September through December 2009 on Monday through Friday 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM. Folks who are not patients can get a flu shot for $10. Please get your flu shot. If you have any question please call 617 825-9660.

- At Dorchester House: 8 Free Public Flu Clinics beginning September 26th. 9 am - 1 pm. Sept. 26, Oct. 3, Oct. 10, Oct. 24, Oct. 31, Nov. 7, Nov. 14. Please call 617-288-3230 for more information.

Volunteers Needed this Tuesday and Wednesday at the Lee School

3-4 volunteers are needed for a few hours this Tuesday and/or Wednesday morning to help the Joseph Lee Elementary School get books organized for the coming school year.
