"Sleeping Moon" Sculpture Dedication, Oct. 26, 2010
Embracing Dorchester's growing art community, the new and improved Peabody Square will include a sculpture by local artist and Ashmont Hill resident Joseph Wheelwright. Come join Mayor Menino and distinguished guests, and be entertained by the Boston City Singers in celebrating this newest addition to Dorchester's public artwork collection. The dedication ceremony starts at 4 PM on Tuesday, October 26th and will be held at Ashmont Station Plaza at the intersection of Ashmont Street, Talbot Avenue and Dorchester Avenue.
The Boston Globe reported on the installation in 2006. The Dorchester Arts Collaborative quotes the artist: "The moon and the clock will relate sweetly and quietly in a ‘timeless’ dance, and admirers will find new seating at the base of the clock." See this recent article describing the Sleeping Moon, and another public art installation at the other end of Dorchester.
