Garrison Awards, Jun. 25

The 3rd Annual Garrison Awards will be held on Saturday, June 25th at Island Pride, 986 Blue Hill Avenue in Dorchester, MA. Come see a huge assortment of reggae performers give a great show as community organizations and individual receive recognition for their local activities. Event begins at 9 p.m.; tickets are $15. This year, the Codman Square Health Center has been nominated for the Best Community Health Center Award!  

The Garrison Awards Ceremony brings people together of all ethnic backgrounds and financial status in an effort to show camaraderie and appreciation for the many accomplishments achieved throughout the year. Many individuals volunteer their time and/or provide sponsorship in a variety of ways in support of this event. The Garrison Awards Ceremony is unique in that it was created and is organized by a group of reggae/dancehall artists in appreciation primarily of the artists that would be considered their competition in the Boston area.

The Garrison Awards Ceremony was founded by the Garrison Famally (D!Arryval, NyJAH, Silva Duss, Tana Blacks, Toasta) in 2009. The Garrison Famally recognized a need to provide an event geared towards the communities in and around the Boston area where artists, musicians, local businesses, professionals and other individuals would have the opportunity to be recognized for their positive contributions to their neighborhoods and surrounding areas.

The ultimate goal of the Garrison Famally is to bring an East Coast Reggae Music Chart into fruition where the works of reggae artists can be truly judged and/or voted upon BY the people... because true reggae music is FOR the people. As such, the Garrison Famally recognizes the need to appreciate the other aspects of the lives of "the people" and thus, other awards in many different categories are offered each year. As long as there are people in our communities who care and as long as music remains the most universal language - the Garrison Awards will continue to recognize both.
