9th Annual Dorchester Open Studios Week, Oct 17-24

Dorchester artists throw open their doors! The 9th Annual Dorchester Open Studios Week will take place Oct 17-24. Events during the week will culminate in the Open Studios Weekend Oct. 23-24, when 122 artists exhibit their artwork in locations across Dorchester from 12-5 p.m.

Opening Reception: The reception for Open Studios weekend will be on Friday, October 22, from 6:30 to 8:30, hosted by Hancock 309 Gallery, at 309 Hancock Street in Dorchester.

Dorchester Public Art Ride: Dot Bike will lead a cycling tour of Dorchester's public art on Saturday Oct. 23rd, at 11 a.m. The ride will be between 8 - 10 miles at a casual pace with several brief stops along the way to view some of Dorchester's great outdoor artworks. Ride begins at Codman Square in front of the Great Hall: 637 Washington St., Dorchester 02124. Helmets required. RSVP: Email Andy or call him at 781-367-9200. Rain date Sunday Oct 24th.

Exhibition locations for Open Studios on Oct. 23 and 24 include: First Parish Church, 10 Parish St. (Meetinghouse Hill); Pearl Street Studios at 11 Pearl St.; Humphreys Street Studios, 11 Humphreys St.; The Boston Home at 2049 Dorchester Ave.; and Walter Baker Lofts at 1231 Adams St.

Illustrated maps depicting the group sites, eight combined home and business studios, and the participating artists will be available beginning October 17th. You can pick up a map at one of the group sites and at local venues, including restaurants, libraries, banks, and real estate offices.

The Dorchester Arts Collaborative was founded in 2002 to develop and facilitate arts programming in Dorchester and to cultivate the social, cultural, and economic enrichment of Boston's largest and most diverse neighborhood.

Kick-off Performance: The Art Show, conceived, written and presented by ARTiculation, a group of young poets, musicians and spoken word artists will take place at Humphreys Street studios October 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. The public is invited and there will be a cover charge of $5. All proceeds will go to the performers.
